Our Peak Team
just returned from the U.S. Open in Las Vegas. The
event is an international competition sponsored by USAT.
Many countries were represented there and it was a great
event. Our team fought admirably, but unfortunately,
we didn't bring home the Gold. According to Coach
Beneby, the team used this event as a practice and training
session to prepare for the Jr. Olympics in Orlando this
July.
Alyssa Rosenberg, a member of our competition team,
traveled to Israel to
compete in the Macabbiah Games. This is a high level
competition for Jewish competitors. The event is of
the same caliber and format as the Olympic Games and is run
every four years. Alyssa was hand picked by the US
team coordinators to represent our country at the games. Her
family and some friends traveled to Israel with her for
support. We learned (immediately following her match)
that Alyssa won the Gold Medal in her division.
Congratulations Alyssa.
The 2009 USA Tae Kwon Do
Junior Olympics
was held in Austin,
Texas last year and the event was fantastic. Our own Phillip Martin took a Gold
Medal in sparring, winning all three
of his fights. The other athletes on our team had some great
fights as well. It was clear that the Peak Performance
training has paid off. Look for pictures from the
event on the competition team page. This
year, the Junior Olympics will be in Orlando. We hope
to see lots of you there.
We are very
excited to announce that in January of 2009, Self Defense
America of Coral Springs became the newest location for
Peak Performance. Peak Performance is an elite
training system created by Olympic Medalist, Juan Moreno.
Juan Moreno is a coach for the USA Olympic Tae Kwon Do team
and he operates a training facility in Miami as well.
Coach Moreno has several Peak Performance facilities
throughout the country, and thanks to his relationship with
our own Master Beneby, we will enjoy the benefits of the
Peak Performance program. This will propel our
competition team to an Olympic training level. Thank
you Coach Moreno, Master Beneby, Master Baldwin, and Master
Doty for making this possible.
